Tote Placepot Guide

The Placepot is the most popular of the tote pool bets with punters being able to have a good interest in the day’s racing for a small outlay and with the potential of a decent return.

The bet works as follows;

Select at least one horse in the first six races of your chosen meeting.

All six horses must be placed.

A dividend is then paid depending on the number of winning tickets.

The dividend payment is dependent on the number of favourites that get placed. The more that are out the frame the higher the dividend will normally be. This is because your opponents when playing the Placepot are other punters, the majority of whom will have selected a fair few favourites in their bet.

Non runners can also play a key role in a decent Placepot return. This is due to the fact any bets placed on non runners are automatically transferred to the favourite. If you get a few races where a couple of the more fancied horses are non runners and the favourite is unplaced, the dividend can be huge.

Particularly good times for Placepot bets are the big meetings such as Royal Ascot and Cheltenham when the pools can reach the £500,000 bracket. The other good thing about these meetings is you know 99% of the horses are there at the top of their game trying to finish as well as possible for the decent place prize money that is on offer.

Placepot Perms

Making use of a permutation can give you a better chance of landing a winning Placepot bet but keep in mind the more selections you make the more the bet will cost.

To find out the number of bets you are placing, multiply the number of selections you have made in each race by one another. For example, if you choose 2 selections per race your perm would look like this; 2x2x2x2x2x2 = 64. You then multiply 64 by whatever your unit stake is, if you did it for 25p for example, the bet would cost you £16.
