Frankie Dettori

Frankie Dettori is one of the most successful jockeys of his generation and certainly the most popular and well know boht on and off the track. His career started with Luca Cumani before becoming the first teenager since Lester Piggott to ride 100 winners in a season.

He is probably best known for his magnificent seven at Ascot in 1996 when he rode all seven winners on the card.

Frankie is stable jockey for Godolphin. While not showing a level stake profit overall, he’s not showing much of a loss either at time of writing. What is worth taking not of however, is his record on 2 year olds for the stable.

Dettori also rides a lot of horses for Brian Meehan. His record for Meehan is a lot less impressive than Godolphin, with a large level stake loss in recent years.

Although he’s only got an average record at Ascot overall, anyone that rides seven winners in one meeting must know a thing or two about how to ride the track!

The majority of Dettori’s rides are at the major meetings and bigger courses around the world but he has a decent LSP in recent years at all of the following tracks; Lingfield, Kempton, Folkestone, Brighton and Wolverhampton.

Dettori’s race type statistics make for some surprising reading.

Race type 2003 - 2007

You imagine Dettori as the master of the Group race but his record doesn’t support this. His rides in Group races are often bad value and priced up on reputation rather than ability. He still has his fair share of winners but often at short odds.

This is another top jockey who has a fairly strong record in Selling and Claiming races. As we have discussed with Seb Sanders and Jamie Spencer, this is likely down to these jockeys being able to get the best out of quirky animals and also the fact stables like to book the top riders when keen to pick up a win at this level.
