The Epsom Derby

The Epsom Derby is one of the biggest flat races in the world and attracts the very top middle distance horses. The race is open to three year olds (excluding geldings) and offers prize money in excess of a million pounds. It is the fourth of the five British Classic races.

Epsom Course Description

Epsom is a left-handed, U-shaped course, steep undulations, 1mile 4furlongs.

The Derby Trends

Jockey Kieren Fallon has ridden the winner of the race three times in the last ten years, twice for Sir Michael Stoute.

Jockey Johnny Murtagh has also won the race three times in the last ten years, riding for a different trainer on each occasion.

Aidan O’Brien and Sir Michael Stoute have trained four winners in the last ten years (two each).

There has only been one winner priced in double figures in the last ten years.
