Day 2 of the Cheltenham Open meeting features the Paddy Power Gold Cup and we are also looking at one of the biggest Scoop 6 payouts ever.

Saturday’s action comes from Cheltenham, Great Leighs, Punchestown, Uttoxeter and an evening meeting from Wolverhampton.

The 2008 Paddy Power Gold Cup takes place on Saturday 15th November at Cheltenham Racecourse. It is a Grade 3 handicap chase and is open to horses aged 5 years and older. It has been won by some quality horses over the years including Cyfor Malta, Our Vic and Exotic Dancer.

The Pipe yard have a great record in the Paddy Power having won the race 7 times since 1996.

Silverburn from the Paul Nicholls yard heads the betting for the 2008 renewal at 7/2. His most recent run was finishing in 4th place in the Royal & SunAlliance Chase, 11 lengths behind Albertas Run. He’s only had 4 starts over fences and is open to any amount of improvement. The bookmakers certainly aren’t taking any chances.

Nicky Henderson’s Barber Shop is also well fancied at around the 9/1 mark. He’s owned and bred by the Queen so would be a popular winner. With the Henderson stable having started the season in such good fashion, it would be foolish to discount Barber Shop’s chance.

Finger Onthe Pulse has been running consistently well in novice chases and recently finished 2nd in a Grade 3 chase behind Paul Nicholls’ Noland. Finger Onthe Pulse won at last season’s Cheltenham Festival so we at least know Tom Taaffe’s runner will be at home on the course. He’s currently a 9/1 chance.

With the Nigel Twiston Davies stable in such good form again this season, Mahogany Blaze must enter calculations. He was super consistent last season winning three chases including the Champagne Lanson Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham. He will certainly be a force in the top handicaps this season and looks a solid each way bet at 14/1.
