EBA Weekend Horse Racing Preview 22/11/08

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Some top class racing this Saturday which includes Kauto Star’s bid for a third successive Betfair Chase at Haydock, but all eyes will again be on the Scoop 6. It looks like it must be won this week but will it be one of the big syndicates or a single £2 punter?

Saturday’s action comes from Ascot, Gowran Park, Haydock, Huntingdon, Lingfield as well as an evening meeting from Wolverhampton.

There are 12 live races on terrestrial TV. The BBC are showing the 1.05, 1.40 and 2.15 from Haydock and the 1.20 and 1.55 from Ascot. Channel 4 are showing the 2.10, 3.20 and 3.50 from Lingfield, the 2.25 and 3.30 from Huntingdon, the 2.45 from Haydock and the 3.05 at Ascot.

If you back the winner of a live Channel 4 race at 4/1 or bigger, Bet365 will give you a free bet of up to £50 on the following Channel 4 race. This is a great offer for all you Saturday armchair punters.

The big race of the day is Haydock’s 2.15 the Betfair Chase. Paul Nicholls’ Kauto Star is a very short priced favourite to complete a hat trick of wins in this race. He won as he liked at Down Royal last time and only looks to have Exotic Dancer to beat. It’s a very poor turn out considering the prize money on offer.

For fans of the flat, there are a couple of good Listed races taking place at Lingfield with Peter Makin’s Harvest Queen looking an interesting contender in the 3.20.

Scoop 6 News
The Scoop 6 is going to reach new heights this week. The win fund currently stands at £2,037,527 and could easily double by race time. The bet costs just £2 and even if you can find 6 horses to place, you could be looking at a very nice payout indeed.

The Scoop 6 races are as follows;
2.10 Lingfield
2.40 Lingfield
2.45 Haydock
3.20 Lingfield
3.30 Huntingdon
3.50 Lingfield

You can normally get 10% cashback on your Scoop 6 bets with both Skybet and BlueSq. Both bookmakers also offer new clients a free bet. Totesport are offering 5% cashback.

Saturday’s Bookmaker Offers
Sportingbet
If your selection falls, unseats or is brought down at Haydock or Ascot this Saturday-
We’ll REFUND your stake!

Our faller promotion has become massively popular in the last few weeks with a host of punters getting their cash back after seeing their selection fall. Last weekend we refunded fallers on all three days of the Open meeting at Cheltenham much to the delight of our customers and the annoyance of our traders.

We’re not running scared this weekend though, instead we’ll double the risk by doing the same for Saturday’s meetings from Haydock and Ascot!

Good Luck and Happy Punting

The 2008 Betfair Chase

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

The 2008 Betfair Chase takes place on Saturday 22nd November at Haydock Park. It’s a Grade 1 race for horses aged five years and older. The race consists of 18 fences over a trip of 3 miles.

This is the first race of the Betfair Million series. Betfair give £1,000,000 to the owners of any horse that finishes in the first 3 in the Betfair Chase, first or second in any race at the Cheltenham Festival then wins the Grand National.

There have been 3 renewals of the Betfair Chase thus far, Kingscliff won the race in 2005 then Kauto Star won in both 2006 and 2007. Kauto Star went on to win the £1,000,000 in the 2006/07 season.

Kauto Star heads the market for this year’s race at 1/2 with BlueSq. He was very impressive on his seasonal debut in the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Gowran Park. Admittedly, Kauto didn’t have much to beat and his main rival, The Listener, ran well below expectations.

Exotic Dancer is clear 2nd favourite at 4/1. He finished runner up in the 2007 renewal, beaten just half a length by Kauto Star. It’s hard to see Exotic Dancer getting the better of Kauto Star seeing as he’s failed so many times in the past but if they are both on top form, it could be close again.

Our Vic is an interested contender. He’s currently a 10/1 chance with BlueSq. I’ve always thought David Pipe’s charge is one of the most talented chasers in trainer but he needs to be kept fresh to be seen at his best and that was the explanation for the poor performances he tended to throw in. That theory went out the window with his two wins in quick succession at the end of last season. He has also proved that he gets the trip of 3m+ with no problem. Another quality he seems to have gained in recent times is being able to rally when he looks beaten. Even at coming up to 11 years old next season, I think he’s a horse to keep on the right side of.
