Cheltenham 2010 – Supreme Novices Hurdle

Supreme Novices Hurdle

Supreme Novices Hurdle

The Supreme Novices Hurdle is the opening race at the Cheltenham Festival and it’s the event where the traditional Cheltenham Roar from the huge crowds can be heard at it’s loudest. The late Vincent O’Brien had an amazing record in the Supreme Novices Hurdle, having a record number of victories during the 1950s.

Irish trainers normally do very well in this race and the last three renewals have gone to Irish trained runners.

2010 Supreme Novices Hurdle Betting

2010 Supreme Novices Hurdle

Even at this relatively early stage, we have a very short priced favourite for the 2010 Supreme Novices Hurdle in the shape of the Phillip Fenton trained Dunguib. Generally a 6/4 chance at time of writing, Dunguib has done everything asked of him of hurdles so far and also won last year’s Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival. The horse does look to have a very strong chance indeed but taking 6/4 more than two months before the Festival isn’t for me.

A decent each way alternative may be Menorah. Phillip Hobbs five year old won a decent contest at Kempton on Boxing Day and looks to still be very much on an upward curve.
